Heroes
at The YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford was a key punk night in the area
and hosted many legendary gigs during its heyday of 1981 / 1982. Local bands
such as Waxwork Dummies and Vane would often play there, and many out of
town bands would add Heroes to their tour itinerary, such as The Adicts,
The UK Subs, Brutal Attack, The Lurkers and many more. Several Southend Punk bands played there, including The Kronstadt Uprising whom played there in 1982 with the New Recruits (26.06.82), and Allegiance to No One, whom played there on 10.11.82. The venue would continue to host various music events, but 'Heroes' was The YMCA's main punk / alternative night during the early eighties. |
